Interim report

Interim report TETSI-project.

Our project started early in November, with the capstone course and as soon as we could we arranged a meeting with the project owner. Due to our project being in a way unique so that we can’t tell much about the technical stuff and only describe things at a very general level. Right at the start we arranged a meeting with the project owner Marja Tuominen from Finnish Defense Forces navy.
We went through about the projects needs and what we are going to do. The main outcome is to create a solution for the Navy’s need for electrical shooting targets. Solution should eliminate the need to physically move between the shootings to the board and see how many hits there are and patch them after. The end result should be a system which can recognize where the bullet hit, and transmit the data for the user to be seen from the UI we create. It will also store the data in a database. The end result will be Finnish defense forces property. We named our project “Tactical Electronic Target Shooting Interface”, TETSI in short.

We are currently waiting for the security check that is Finnish Defense Forces standard performed to every person who works for them. Due to its long process, we don’t exactly know about the specific specs for the TETSI .We are planning to arrange a meeting in early January to discuss those. This has not prevented us from brainstorming ideas about how we can produce the necessary end result.
The most important thing is to have a solution which answers the projects need correctly. After we know the specs of the project, we will collect different kinds of ideas, ending with the most cost effective and practical solution. The Finnish defense forces will provide us a way to test materials and components in practical scenarios, to see which the best for use are. We have also done research about the same kind products, Sius and Solo. Both using a different type of a way to triangulate the hit on the target and provide real time feedback for the user to see. We can’t discuss about the technical ideas which will be used in the project. We have done mind trees, rapid prototyping and other task the course set us according to our project.

Our responsibilities in the group are divided equally. We have a meeting every week considering the weeks tasks set to do. Everyone contributes to the tasks and group work evenly. Once we know the specs of the project, we will divide tasks for the group members to do. It is important for us to keep collaborating tightly with the project owners to provide them the result needed. If we face problems, we will discuss and solve them with the Project owners.
